Get Started with Trezor
Welcome to true crypto security. Your journey begins here.
Congratulations on choosing Trezor, the original and most trusted hardware wallet. This page will guide you through setting up your device—whether it's the advanced Trezor Model T or the secure Trezor Safe 3—so you can safely store, manage, and grow your cryptocurrencies.
⚠️ Critical First Step: Verify Your Device's Authenticity
Only purchase from our official Trezor Shop or authorized resellers. Check the holographic seal on your package. If you suspect tampering, contact support immediately before proceeding.
Three Simple Steps to Sovereignty
Step 1: Download Trezor Suite & Connect
Trezor Suite is your secure desktop and web application for complete asset management.
-
Download the Application: Visit suite.trezor.io to download Trezor Suite for desktop (recommended) or use the web version.
-
Connect Your Device: Use the provided USB cable to connect your Trezor to your computer or laptop.
-
Initialize: Open Trezor Suite and follow the prompts. Click "Setup a new Trezor" if this is your first device.
Security Tip: Always verify you're on the official trezor.io domain. Bookmark it to avoid phishing sites.
Step 2: The Vital Setup – Your Recovery Seed
This step is the foundation of your security. Your recovery seed is the master key to your entire wallet.
-
Install Firmware: Trezor Suite will install the latest firmware for optimal security.
-
Create Your Backup:
-
Your Trezor device will generate a unique sequence of 12, 18, or 24 words.
-
Handwrite these words on the included recovery seed card, in the exact order shown.
-
Never digitize this seed—no photos, no cloud notes, no typing.
-
-
Confirm Your Backup: The device will test you by asking to select specific words. This ensures you've recorded them correctly.
The Most Important Rule in Crypto: Your recovery seed = your coins. If lost, it cannot be recovered. If stolen, your funds can be taken. Store multiple copies in secure, offline locations like a safe or safety deposit box.
Step 3: Finalize with a PIN & Naming
Add a final layer of physical device protection.
-
Set a PIN: Create a PIN of at least 4 digits. The keypad randomizes on your Trezor's display to prevent surveillance.
-
Name Your Device: Give it a recognizable name (e.g., "Primary Vault").
-
Access Your Dashboard: You'll be taken to the main Trezor Suite interface. Your secure wallet is now active.
What's Next? Mastering Your Secure Wallet
Now that your vault is built, explore its capabilities directly within Trezor Suite:
-
Receive Crypto: Navigate to an account (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.), click "Receive," and always verify the receiving address on your Trezor's screen before sending.
-
Buy & Exchange: Use the integrated "Buy" or "Exchange" tabs to acquire crypto through our vetted partners, sending it directly to your secure hardware wallet.
-
Unlock Advanced Features:
-
Passphrase Protection: Activate a Hidden Wallet for an extra layer of security—like a 25th word only you know.
-
Staking: Stake supported assets (like ETH) directly from your secure cold storage to earn rewards.
-
Explore Web3: Connect safely to decentralized applications (DeFi, NFTs) via the Wallet Connect or MetaMask integration, keeping your keys protected.
-
Why This Process is Unbreakable
Your setup followed principles that make Trezor the gold standard:
-
Air-Gapped Key Generation: Your private keys were created offline in the secure chip of your Trezor and have never been exposed to the internet.
-
Visual Transaction Verification: Every transaction must be physically confirmed on your device's screen, defeating even a fully compromised computer.
-
Open-Source Auditing: Our software and firmware are transparent, continuously scrutinized by the global security community.
You haven't just set up a wallet—you've established a self-sovereign foundation for your digital wealth.

Frequently Asked Questions
1. What happens if I lose my Trezor device?
Your funds remain completely safe. Simply obtain a new Trezor (or any compatible BIP39 wallet), select "Recover Wallet," and enter your original 12, 18, or 24-word recovery seed. Your complete wallet, with all accounts and transaction history, will be restored. The device is just an access point; your seed is the key.
2. Can I use Trezor with mobile phones?
Yes. You can connect your Trezor to an Android device using a USB-OTG adapter and use Trezor Suite via a compatible browser. For iOS, you can use the Trezor Suite web version with specific browsers that support WebUSB. For optimal experience, we recommend using a computer for the initial setup and major operations.
3. Is my recovery seed enough, or do I need to back up the device itself?
You only need your recovery seed. This single set of words backs up everything on the device. There is no need to backup the physical device or its files. Guarding your seed is your one and only backup responsibility.
4. What's the difference between the PIN and the Passphrase?
-
PIN: Protects the physical device from unauthorized use if lost or stolen.
-
Passphrase: Acts as a customizable "25th word" to your recovery seed. It creates an entirely separate, hidden wallet. Use it for an added security layer or plausible deniability.
5. I bought from a third party. How can I be sure it's safe?
If you didn't buy from our official shop, we recommend a full reset. In Trezor Suite, go to Settings > Device > Wipe Device. Then, go through the setup process as outlined above. This will generate brand new, random recovery seeds that only you possess, eliminating any risk from prior handling.
6. Where do I get the latest firmware and updates?
Trezor Suite will automatically notify you when a new firmware update is available. Updates are delivered directly through the Suite application during the installation process. Never install firmware from a website or email link—only through the connected Trezor Suite app.
